International Women’s Day is a reminder that confidence and success don’t happen overnight. It’s about celebrating growth and encouraging the next generation of women to back themselves, even when they’re still figuring things out.”

For this year’s International Women’s Day, we’re proud to launch a campaign that spotlights the remarkable women shaping our industry and community. Through a series of profiles, we are sharing the stories of inspiring women who are leading and innovating across our industry!

Read Natalie’s story below.

I started my journey in the merchandise world in 2000, fresh out of uni with no real idea of what merchandising was, or how the business world worked. Like many graduates, I learned by doing — asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually building confidence through experience rather than certainty.

I come from a family of strong women, and although I didn’t always recognise it at the time, that foundation shaped how I approached challenges early in my career. Resilience, independence, and the belief that hard work would open doors were values I carried with me, even when I found myself in unfamiliar environments or being one of the few women in the room.

As my career developed, I learned the importance of trusting my own voice and speaking up, particularly in moments where self-doubt crept in. What I enjoy most about what I do know is working with others and helping them to find their voice and then watching them blossom.

One of my proudest moments was receiving the BPMA Recognition Award. It was a meaningful milestone — not just as a personal achievement, but as a reminder of how far I had come. Being recognised by the industry made the journey feel visible and valued, being able to share it with those I work and have worked with afterwards, to thank them for their contribution gave me great pleasure.

The people I have worked with along the way have shaped not just my career, but how I now approach leadership — with openness, empathy, and a belief that people do their best work when they feel supported and heard.

International Women’s Day is a reminder that confidence and success don’t happen overnight. It’s about celebrating growth and encouraging the next generation of women to back themselves, even when they’re still figuring things out.

If there’s one thing I’d say to women entering the industry, it’s this: you don’t need to start with confidence or clarity — both come with time. Stay curious, back yourself, and don’t underestimate the value of your perspective.
