The Board Directors

The BPMA board is made up of 14 Industry professionals representing suppliers, distributors and service partners. As representatives of the members their role is to set the strategy and direction of the BPMA and to ensure the organisation is run in a proper and efficient manner. All board directors are elected at the AGM (Annual General Meeting) which is normally held in October. Board meetings are usually held a minimum of 6 times a year and in London.

The Chairman of the board can hold the office for a maximum term of 2 years. After stepping down the chairman takes the role of President for a role of 2 further years. The other additional official role is Finance Director. The Chairman, President, Finance Director and Director General make up the the Executive team.

If you are interested in joining the board please communicate directly with the Chairman or Director General. The role is voluntary and all the directors fulfil a Non Exec Status.

Graeme Smith

Graeme is Managing Director of the Cyan Group for over 16 years and has, during this time, built up a vast range of knowledge and experience encompassing the total supply chain. Cyan Group have developed very strong, longstanding relationships with clients, suppliers and of course Associations.

Before joining Cyan Group, Graeme was a professional rugby player and enjoyed a brief but successful career in both rugby union and rugby league. He was lucky enough to represent England and Scotland at junior international age groups. The experience he gained from playing in the top flight was invaluable and many qualities learned during this time have been able to translate into the workplace.

In 2008 Graeme took part in the inaugural BPMA Academy – Certificate in Promotional Merchandise and achieved a distinction grade.
Graeme is also a current council member for the IPIA (Independent Print Industry Alliance) Graeme joined the Board in October 2014.

After a successful fourteen year career in IT and web development, Matt entered the promotional merchandise industry in 2002 setting up his first promotional distributor company.

In 2006 he sold the company to a business partner and co-founded Fluid Branding, an award-winning merchandise distributor with offices in London, Leeds and Cornwall. Fluid Branding now employs a team of 30 talented and passionate people, providing merchandise solutions, programmes and products across EMEA to organisations in all sectors.

Matt joined the BPMA board in 2011, and splits his time between London and his home in Cornwall. Outside of work, he's a keen footballer and avid fan of Tottenham Hotspur. Matt is a father of three, a black belt in martial arts, and member of Mensa.

Neal has been in the promotional merchandise industry for over 15 years and currently heads up distributor business Roantree Incentive Marketing based in High Wycombe. Prior to that he has worked with some major brands including Bryant & May, Budweiser and Coca Cola in various Sales and General management roles. He lives in Marlow and has served on the bpma Board for over 6 years including 2 years’ as Chairman. He was also awarded the industry’s “Sword of Honour”

Angela’s background as a National Training Awards Assessor, Investors in People Advisor and Marketing Consultant together with 8 years Recruitment experience enables her to utilise these skills for the role she has taken on the Board for the BPMA.
Managing her own business within the Promotional Merchandise industry since 1999 has enabled her to experience first hand, the benefits of being a BPMA member as she has continued to grow her business. She is now keen to add value to the Board by overseeing the Education programme which will help support the development of staff within our Industry.

A senior level marketer and classically trained Brand Manager, Melissa combines both B2C and B2B full marketing mix experience across a wide portfolio of well-loved brands including Cadbury, Kodak and Crayola. During the past 10 years, Melissa has gained a wealth of industry knowledge working on both the distributor and supplier side of the business, with roles at Propaganda (Sweet Concepts), Senator and most recently recruited as Global Marketing Manager for leading writing instrument brand, A.T. Cross.

Richard is Managing Director of Poole based distributor RT Promotions. He worked for a number of blue chip organisations including Golden Wonder, E & J Gallo and Coca Cola. He has also worked in the electronic security industry too.

Malcolm is something of a veteran of the promotional merchandise industry, entering in 1989 having previously had successful careers in media sales with Radio Luxembourg and Independent Radio Sales and then as an Equity Dealer in the City.

A well-known figure, starting at Ace Awards, Malcolm then spent three years as an Account Manager with BTC Group, before moving to Event Merchandising where he held the position of Sales Director for ten years. A series of conversations with Martin Varley in 2005 led Malcolm to join Dowlis and form a new division – Dowlis Media Promotions. Dowlis, soon after, acquired Distinctive Ideas, the Northwood distributor, and He was installed as Managing Director where he led the company during its period of profound organic growth.

More recently, Malcolm spent three successful years as Sales Manager at Merchandise Mania up its acquisition by Innerworkings followed by stints at The TC Group and The Purple Company in Exeter.

Malcolm joined the BPMA board in 2016. Away from work, he is a keen guitarist and lifelong fan of Manchester United, father of three and grandfather of two!

Brian has been involved in the promotional merchandise industry since 1988 firstly as a distributor (Central Business Gifts) and since 1999 as a partner of PAGE Partnership.
PAGE operates as a catalogue and buying group for up to 40 member distributors.
Members receive a complete package starting with a catalogue through to administration software and websites.
Importantly providing members with the most accurate data in the business.
Brian has wide range of experience with suppliers, distributors and product, and all the conflicts that may exist between them.
His main drive is to develop the industry in to something better and more professional.

Clive Allcott is the Commercial Director with Screenworks Ltd who are an established trade clothing and embellishment specialist. Clive has a wealth of experience covering senior roles within both the supplier and Distributor sector in the promotional arena, along with a background of sales within Watney Mann Truman and Spear and Jackson Tools. An avid sports fan and competitor Clive can often be seen at weekends supporting West Bromwich Albion or playing golf.
