Today the EU Parliament undertook a final vote regarding the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) postponement and simplification – and voted in favour of these new measures (which had been informally agreed on 4th December 2025).
12-Month Postponement
Businesses will now have an additional year to comply with the EUDR. Large and medium organisations will have until 30th December 2026, and micro and small enterprises will have until 30th June 2027.
Due Diligence Simplification
- Downstream operators and traders are no longer be required to submit a due diligence statement for products that are already covered by a statement. Products will only require one statement submission in the EUDR IT system, at the point it first enters the EU market, by the EU operator placing it on the market
- Micro and small primary operators will only be required to submit a simplified due diligence declaration, instead of a full due diligence statement
- A simplification review of the regulation must be carried out by the EU Commission, by 30th April 2026 – meaning the regulation may undergo further amendments
