Steel City is proud to announce that Managing Director, James Biggin, has been honoured with the impressive ‘Entrepreneur of the Year’ award at the 2024 unLTD Business Awards, held at the well-known Peddler Warehouse in Sheffield.
Hosted by Britain’s Got Talent Finalist and comedian Markus Birdman, the glittering ceremony celebrated the best of South Yorkshire’s thriving SME scene. Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate innovation, growth, and community impact across a range of industries.
The awards were judged by a panel of esteemed businesspeople and experts from across the region, who noted the exceptionally high quality of more than 130 applications. Each category had a shortlist of the four best entries, and the winner was announced at the award ceremony.
Phil Turner, publisher of unLTD, commented: “It was awe-inspiring to see a whole new raft of South Yorkshire’s finest SMEs rewarded this year…It’s so important we champion our small businesses; in particular the owners, entrepreneurs and people that run them, for driving the local economy forward.”
James’ win highlights his exceptional leadership, dedication and energy in building both business success, and a positive culture at Steel City.
The judges were particularly impressed by James’ active role within the Sheffield community, and his commitment to empowering his team.
“We couldn’t put in for any award if it wasn’t for the team we are. Strong business growth with the same team of seven for the last three years. No meetings. Just a unique and clinical understanding of everything that needs doing every second—and laughs, fun, and rewards we all enjoy. This isn’t me; this is us. This is a big deal for us all.” James shares.

Steel City also had the privilege to sponsor the Sustainable Business of the Year award, which was presented to Rock & Star, an event space company known for restoring historic Sheffield buildings with sustainability at the core of their design, including The Mowbray, The Chimney House, and The Victoria.
