EUDR May 2026 Updates

News . 14th May 2026

Following a second 12-month postponement in December 2025, this month the EU has released a simplification review of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The EU Commission has confirmed that EUDR will not be re-opened, meaning there will be no further extensions. Large and medium organisations must comply 30th December 2026, and micro and small enterprises will have until 30th June 2027.

The Commission has published a ‘simplification package’, including:

  • An updated guidance document and FAQs
  • Simplified due diligence obligations, as proposed in December 2025:
    1. Downstream operators no longer have to submit a due diligence statement (DDS) for products already covered by a statement, but must keep a record of and pass along the DDS reference.
    2. Micro and small primary operators now only need to submit a simplified statement, not a full DDS.
  • A proposal to amend the scope of derivative products, including the addition of instant coffee and various palm oil derivatives (for example, soap) and removal of leather, samples and second-hand goods (this scope proposal is not final and is subject to approval by the EU Parliament and Council).

The Commission has estimated that these changes are expected to reduce EUDR compliance costs by up to 75%.
